The Monoliths email Interview – December 2023
The Monoliths are the finest purveyors of teenage psychedelic post-punk metal mayhem, with an added ear for particularly virulent ear worms, unexpectedly massive sounds and unlikely time signatures. Their healthy disrespect for their elders and lessers hasn't stopped them packing out venues across London and the South East. No wonder they appear on our 12" vinyl compilation 'Leeks and Beets'

* The Monoliths – who, what and why?

* Describe your sound as if speaking to one of your tone deaf ex teachers (me?).
Music made by tone deaf students.

* You've recently built up a good following both in Cambridge and in London– why do you think this is and how does it make you feel?
A lot of them used to be our friends, but we're too good for them now. The stage gives us power...

*Leeks or beets, leaks or beats!?
Beats, (wiki)leaks, leeks, [powergap] beets

* You are always happy to play Love Music Hate Racism gigs – do you think music / art can make a difference to the so called real world?
It's a start. It brings people together, real change happens when those people organise further.

* Vinyl, CD, digital (or cassette)?
Vinyl is the biggest one...

* What do you listen to when at the launderette?
I watch The Chase

* Would you rather be able to travel back in time or into the future?
Into the future, where the alien babes live.

* Tell us a bit about your tracks on Leeks and Beets.
They are all about Androids.

* What do you hope the record might achieve for you?
Worldwide fame of course!

* You're launching the album at The Portland on Dec 28th; what is the The Monoliths live experience like?
Scary!

* Would you rather have a rewind button or a pause button in your life?

* Would you rather go to an Oasis gig full of leery, beery lads in a Monoliths Fuck Oasis blouse or in just your underwear?
Underwear, the blouse would just weigh me down

* What are the most exciting / frustrating things about growing up in a small Cambridgeshire village?
The most exciting thing is realising you can leave

* If you could join a 5 band festival line up, which other 4 bands (alive or dead) would you like to add to the bill?
Michael Aldag, Oasis, Imagine Dragons and Mumford & Sons. We wanna look good!

* Give us some tips for fighting a dancing robot.

We've featured on the R*E*P*E*A*T records' "X-Ray Flex" with our ode to Oasis as well as a double single "Who Are You Jeff Bezos?", both of these are on spotify. And for the superfans there's a treasure trove of live recordings on soundcloud under our name.
