THE PUKES - Arts Council Grant

No this isn't the name of their debut CD, rather news that THE PUKES - the 21 strong mainly women ukulele band - have received Arts Council England funding to deliver a series of punk rock uke workshops for beginners at festivals and community events this summer.

Having seen them at last years Rebellion festival I can vouch for the fact that their raucous live show has helped them recently gain supports slots with bands such as Sham 69, Bad Manners and Menace.

The bands spokeswoman Clara Wiseman says that "Playing punk rock on the ukulele is a lot of fun and we're stupidly excited about this project. Its a relatively simple instrument to learn, so we're going to have people of all ages strumming along to punk classics in no time. We believe in DIY punk ethos that making music is for anyone who wants to have a go-and that what this project is all about."

The dates confirmed are set out below, so don't stand slouching at the back get you're hands out of your pockets and give it a go. You're never too drunk to pluck!!
