Manic Street Preachers - Know Your Enemy:
Door to the River and Solidarity
2022 Reissue

Below is a succinct review I stumbled upon on Instagram and really enjoyed (while not completely agreeing with), so I asked if I could post it here.

Speaking personally, I am thoroughly enjoying the Solidarity vinyl which stands up as a great, abrasive and committed Manic Street Preachers record : the perfect soundtrack to this weekend's mainstream media servile feudalism. Perhaps they should have stuck to their original plans and released it in this way back in 2001?

I don't often buy reissues of albums, preferring to have the originals, but this new release of Know Your Enemy by the Manic Street Preachers is different.

They've restored it to the double album they originally intended it to be, splitting it between quieter acoustic songs on one record and more guitar-based ones on the other.

They've also included songs that were left off, like the great single Masses Against The Classes and some previously unheard songs. And some of the weaker tracks have been removed.

This has helped a chaotic and messy album gain some sense and consistency, even if some of the decision making here is still flawed.

For example why swap out the lovely So Why So Sad for the mediocre remix version included here? And why leave Wattsville Blues on?

Ah well, it's a nice addition to the collection anyway and certainly interesting to hear one of their most fascinatingly flawed albums in a different way.
