Papa Jupes latest hymn is out and good gosh does it slap
the production is so clean, calm, and collected. Its awfully
catchy and dreadfully easy to sing along to!
Ive been a follower of Jupe for a while and I absolutely bummed
their ep Wetmarket, thought it was truly slamming. This
new single excites me through and through and I cant wait to
hear more.
The lyrics are smart and nasty with a vibe of Scissor Sisters, the
bass is fucking grooving, the synth is bouncy and makes you want to
move your hands, the drums are tight and tasteful, banger I wont
lie.
The monologue part slaps, reminiscent of Shipla Ray, Kim Deal, and
wisps of the song Popular by Nada Surf. This human didnt feature
on Wetmarket I believe (correct me if Im wrong) but a very good
addition, I have yet to catch them with this new line up they have
going on.
Right, the Cardiff producer, our boy, Alex Miller, proper nice chap,
has indeed outdone himself with this one. He clearly hasnt washed
his fingers in a good while and Im glad for it. Those knobs
and dials have been knobbed and dialled in to fuck. Kick drum sounds
slamming, snare cuts throughly gorgeously, guitar has a great tone
and the overall mix of the song is just great. He has worked with
a number of slap heads including Sweatbox (he recorded their album
Black Sauce) and the group of smellers Im involved with Monet
(recorded the Albasore EP which features on Repeats Leeks and
Beets comp vinyl). Hes a groovy producer guy to work with, just
facilitates you getting as weird as you want, while capturing it with
a sense of calmness my boy.
Drink the liquid for the man, dance with him, Jupe calls us all, praise
be.
Mr Pickett
