CJ Wildheart – Lives / Kicks
(rewrite of 2022 review of Kicks in R*E*P*E*A*T issue 40)

Back last summer, when school was out, I totally immersed myself in revelling in CJ Wildheart's Best Of album 'Lives'. Not sure where it got its name from, but the record certainly showcases the incredible musical lives this gifted and generous man has achieved : songs from The Jellys, Honeycrack and solo albums are all refreshed and revived, polished and preened, so that their massive mix of melody and noise breathes anew. Sounds immense!

And now with half term approacing, we have Kicks, the live album which brings all these ginormous tracks to an ecstatic live audience: frantic, melodic, joyous, energetic, refreshing and totally life affirming, it brings back the sweaty exuberance of 2022's triple headed rock beast of a tour with Scott Sorry and Grand Theft Audio (see our pics here).
