The Sex Pistols singer, joint favourite to win the contest, launched a verbal tirade as presenters Ant and Dec announced he had survived the latest eviction vote. Athlete Diane Modahl became the second person to be voted off the show. After Lydon's outburst, presenter Dec Donnelly told viewers: "We are very sorry for that. It's a live show. We are incredibly sorry." An ITV1 spokeswoman said: "It was a live broadcast so was unpreventable." She added: "We apologise for any offence caused. It is a hazard of live shows and obviously we ask people not to swear or say anything inappropriate." Lydon is still the bookmakers' favourite to win the contest, followed by glamour model Jordan. Contestants, also including ex-Premiership footballer Neil Ruddock and former pop star Peter Andre, are spending up to 15 nights in a remote camp in the Australian rainforest to raise money for charity. Meanwhile, Virgin Megastores in the UK report that sales of The Sex Pistols’ seminal punk album ‘Never Mind The Bollocks…’ are now up an incredible 184% on this time last week thanks to Lydon’s appearance on the show. Simon Dornan of Virgin Megastores says: "We’re seeing a major punk revival as sales soar across the country. Music buyers, especially ‘the kids’, are keen to find out what the fuss is all about when people talk about ‘Johnny Rotten’". He added: "What we all tend to forget is that the rise of punk and the Pistols started nearly 30 years ago and their influence is felt now more than ever. Maybe people have finally had enough of bland boy bands and 'Pop Idol'."
